Innovega

Systems Electrical Engineer – Technical Lead

About the Role

At Innovega, we are pioneering advanced electronics and contact lens technologies to create smart glasses for the low vision community. Our multidisciplinary team is developing cutting-edge solutions in optics, electronics, and wearable systems, to deliver solutions starting with low vision, and expanding to other assistive devices and broader consumer applications. As part of our engineering leadership, you'll play a critical role in bringing these innovations from concept to market.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer Technical Lead with strong expertise in digital signal design and validation to guide the development of our next-generation smart glasses. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys tackling complex system challenges, and wants to shape innovative products in wearable assistive technologies.

You will be responsible for driving designs from concept through production, ensuring quality and reliability at every stage. As a leader, you'll provide technical direction to internal teams and contractors, while collaborating cross-functionally with mechanical engineers, software engineers, program managers, and manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Development

    • Lead system-level electrical design of wearable smart glasses involving high-speed and low-speed digital interfaces.
    • Collaborate on architecture trade-offs balancing performance, cost, power, and reliability.
    • Apply Signal Integrity and Power Integrity (SIPI) expertise to ensure robust designs.
    • Address coexistence challenges in systems with high-speed interfaces across multiple subsystems.
  • Validation & Production

    • Manage and engage with contract manufacturers and suppliers.
    • Plan and execute validation of units through engineering builds.
    • Own root-cause analysis and corrective action for electrical issues.
    • Oversee transition from prototype to production, ensuring designs are DFX (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, and Reliability) compliant.
  • Leadership & Collaboration

    • Provide technical guidance, promoting best practices in design and validation.
    • Communicate across teams and levels, providing regular updates to execs.
    • Lead and participate in design reviews (concept, schematic, layout, DFM)
    • Act as the primary technical interface with internal stakeholders and external manufacturing partners.
    • Foster an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture where all voices are valued.

Qualifications

  • Required

    • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in electrical design and validation for complex systems.
    • Strong background in schematics/layout and SIPI simulation/analysis tools.
    • Familiarity with tight package designs considering desense and Coex issues.
    • Hands-on experience with high-speed interfaces (USB, MIPI, LVDS, PCIe, DDR etc.) and low-speed peripherals.
    • Experience taking products from concept to mass production.
    • Track record of owning problems end-to-end and solving them with minimal guidance.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor technical discussions to different audiences.
  • Preferred

    • 2+ years as a technical lead or manager, mentoring teams or leading contractors.
    • Experience in consumer electronics, ideally in wearables or similarly constrained systems.
    • Experience collaborating with contract manufacturers and global supply chain partners.

What We're Looking For

  • A systems thinker who can innovate down to the details while maintaining big-picture impact.

  • Driven to produce quality, reliable products.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and proactive in creating clarity.
  • Able to identify and solve problems with minimal direction.
  • A collaborative leader who uplifts team members and drives results.
  • Motivated by building technology that improves lives.
