Innovega

UI/UX Software Engineer

About the Role

At Innovega, we are pioneering advanced electronics and contact lens technologies to create smart glasses for the low vision community. Our multidisciplinary team is developing cutting-edge solutions in optics, electronics, software, and wearable systems, to deliver solutions starting with low vision, and expanding to other assistive devices and broader consumer applications. As part of our engineering team, you'll play a critical role in shaping the human-centered software experiences that bring these innovations to life.

We are seeking a Software UI/UX Engineer with a passion for developing intuitive, accessible, and engaging software for assistive technologies. This role is ideal for a hands-on developer-designer hybrid who thrives in creating holistic user experiences, from early concept through product launch, and enjoys working closely with users to refine solutions that truly improve lives.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing user-facing software on both mobile devices and smart glasses, developing end-to-end user flows, and collaborating across disciplines to ensure a seamless product experience. You'll engage directly in requirements gathering, prototyping, user testing, and coding to deliver robust, production-ready applications.

Responsibilities

  • User Experience Design

    • Define and design human-centered experiences for assistive products, from first touch to setup, daily usage, and support.
    • Translate requirements into storyboards, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.
    • Conduct user studies, usability tests, and feedback sessions to validate design choices.
    • Develop UI flows optimized for accessibility and tailored to transparent displays.
  • Software Development

    • Implement user interfaces and front-end software for mobile platforms (Android and iOS).
    • Collaborate with backend and hardware teams to ensure smooth integration of software and device functions.
    • Work in an Agile development environment, contributing to sprints, reviews, and iterative releases.
    • Ensure UI/UX consistency, performance, and reliability across supported platforms.
  • Collaboration & Delivery

    • Partner with researchers, engineers, and product managers to define requirements and prioritize features.
    • Contribute to design reviews, providing both UX and technical perspectives.
    • Support the full lifecycle of software development, from R&D through market launch.

Qualifications

  • Required

    • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • 2+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design and software development.
    • Proven track record of contributing to at least one product that has gone to market.
    • Strong coding skills for user-facing applications, with experience on Android and/or iOS platforms.
    • Demonstrated ability to design and implement complete user experiences, including onboarding, daily use, and support.
    • Familiarity with Agile development processes.
  • Preferred

    • Experience designing for assistive products or accessibility-focused solutions.
    • Understanding of UI/UX challenges for transparent AR displays.
    • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.

  • Comfortable bridging design and engineering, moving fluidly from concept sketches to coded prototypes.
  • Highly collaborative, able to engage with engineers, researchers, and product stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, ensuring every user interaction feels intuitive and refined.
  • Motivated by building technology that empowers people and improves lives.
